Associate Member
- Not required to have formal mediation training or a current mediation practice
- Has an express interest in American Association of Mediators. May be professionals in a related field that work closely with mediators; also available to trainers, educators, and currently enrolled students.

General Mediator Member
- Has interest in the mediation field and/or establishing a mediation practice
- Completed a minimum of 32 hours of formal mediation training
American Association of Mediators Mediator Certification
The American Association of Mediators certifies mediators at the Certified, Advanced Certified, and Master Certified levels. Mediators seeking certification at a specified level, must meet the requirements listed below for that level. There is a Certification Designation Fee associated with the processing of the certified levels. Anyone requesting certification must also have an annual membership at the General Mediator Member level. For an introductory period, the Certification Designation Fee is reduced to $50 and the General Mediator Member level is discounted to $99 for the first year.

Certified Mediator Member
- Completed a minimum of 32 hours of formal basic mediation training; and
- Mediated 10 cases to completion and/or completed 50 total session hours
- Member pledges to follow the American Association of Mediators Standards of Practice
- Member has never been sanctioned or lost a previously held license or certification in any field
- Member has completed a Certified Mediator profile that is on file with American Association of Mediators
- Fee includes annual General Mediator Member Fee & Certification Designation Fee

Advanced Certified Mediator Member
- Completed a minimum of 32 hours of formal basic mediation training; and
- Completed an additional 32 hours of formal advanced mediation training; and
- Mediated a minimum of 25 cases to completion or a minimum of 100 total session hours
- Member pledges to follow the American Association of Mediators Standards of Practice
- Member affirms they maintain an appropriate level of malpractice insurance
- Member affirms they have never been sanctioned or lost a previously held license or certification in any field
- Member has completed a Certified Mediator profile that is on file with American Association of Mediators
- Fee includes annual General Mediator Member Fee & Certification Designation Fee

Master Certified Mediator Member
- Completed a minimum of 32 hours of formal basic mediation training; and
- Completed an additional 40 hours of formal advanced mediation training;
- Mediated 100 or more cases to completion or a minimum of 500 total session-hours; and
- Member pledges to follow the American Association of Mediators Standards of Practice
- Member affirms they maintain an appropriate level of malpractice insurance
- Member affirms they have never been sanctioned or lost a previously held license or certification in any field
- Member has completed a Certified Mediator profile that is on file with American Association of Mediators
- Fee includes annual General Mediator Member Fee & Certification Designation Fee
